In 2023, the total import and export value of China's printing industry's three major categories of goods reached $23.432 billion.

Printed materials: $16.765 billion

Printing equipment: $5.098 billion

Printing supplies: $1.569 billion


Printed materials are the largest and account for 71% of the total import and export value among the three categories in China's printing industry.


Categories of Goods

Import and export of printed publications: $2.145 billion, a decrease of 17% compared to the previous year.

Import and export of packaging and decoration printed materials: $8.346 billion, a decrease of 14%.

Import and export of commercial printing materials: $6.274 billion, an increase of 3%.


Goods Structure

Printed publications: 13%, a decrease of 1 percentage point compared to the previous year.

Packaging and decoration printed materials: 50%, an increase of 7 percentage points.

Commercial printing materials: 37%, a decrease of 6 percentage points.


Regional Distribution

In 2023, the distribution of China's printing imports and exports in major regions was as follows:

Asia: $6.345 billion, accounting for 38%.

Europe: $3.629 billion, accounting for 22%.

North America: $4.377 billion, accounting for 26%.

Oceania: $0.875 billion, accounting for 5%.

Latin America: $0.837 billion, accounting for 5%.

Africa: $0.703 billion, accounting for 4%.

Compared with 2022, the proportions of Asia, Europe, and Oceania remained stable, while North America decreased by 2 percentage points, and Latin America and Africa increased by 1 percentage point each.


Trading Partners

China's printing imports and exports involved 264 trading partner countries (regions) in 2023.

The total import and export amount of the top 20 trading partners was $12.575 billion, accounting for 75% of the total import and export value of China's printing.

The United States is the largest trading partner for China's printing imports and exports.

The top 20 trading partners also include Hong Kong (China), the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, and Vietnam.


Export Situation

China's printing exports amounted to $14.450 billion in 2023, a decrease of 9%.

The proportions of exports of printed publications, packaging and decoration printed materials, and commercial printing materials were 12%, 55%, and 33%, respectively.

Compared with the previous year, the proportions of printed publications and packaging and decoration printed materials decreased by 1 and 3 percentage points, respectively, while commercial printing materials increased by 4 percentage points.
